Keeping children healthy is the goal of our daycare staff and parents. While minor sniffles are typical during the colder months, there are times when keeping your child home is the best option.
Immune systems are still developing in small children which means viruses and other illnesses spreads quickly. Keeping your child home when he/she is sick protects not only the other children, but also our staff. Time at home can help your child get well faster and build up their immune system to prevent repeat illness.
When your child has any of the following symptoms, please keep them home until they are well.
Fever: If your child has a fever of 100.4°F or higher, he/she should stay home. Children must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication before returning to daycare.
Vomiting or Diarrhea: Repeated vomiting or diarrhea is a sign to keep your child home until the symptoms have been gone for at least 24 hours.
Severe Cold/Flu Systems: Excessive nasal drainage with green or yellow mucus, along with fatigue and general discomfort mean your child should stay home.
Sore Throat with Fever or Swollen Glands: Sore throat, fever, or swollen glands can be a sign of strep throat or similar infection that requires medical attention.
Eye Infections: Red itch eyes with discharge (pink eye) are high contagious. Children should not be brought to daycare until they are cleared to return by a doctor.
Rashes, especially with Fever: Unexplained rashes, with our without a fever must be evaluated by a doctor before your child can return to daycare.
While we understand that unexpected illnesses can disrupt schedules and be inconvenient for parents, however keeping your sick child home is an important part of keeping everyone healthy.
