We all know that children can be the ultimate picky eaters! When going to Elementary School, packing lunches can be a challenge!  Just remember, healthy lunches don’t have to be complicated. Here are some simple ideas that your kids just might eat!

Healthy Lunches don’t have to be complicated. Make sure to add a mix of protein, whole grains, fruits and vegetables.  Some easy ideas are:

  • Turkey and cheese roll ups with crackers
  • Sunflower butter sandwich with a banana or berries
  • Greek yogurt with berries and granola
  • Sliced vegetables with ranch dip and some cheese cubes and crackers
  • Pinwheel roll ups with a tortilla, sliced meat, and cheese.
  • Homemade snack boxes with lean meats, whole grain crackers and sliced cheese

Making fruits easy and fun to eat goes a long way with children. Try fruit kebobs, banana slices mixed with yogurt or frozen grapes.

Vegetables can be a challenge for many children. Try baby carrots, cucumber or bell pepper slices, or cherry tomatoes. A dip can also make it more fun to eat veggies.

Remember to keep lunch child sized to reduce waste. Also, make sure that your child can open any packaging in their lunch. And don’t forget the drink!  Avoid sugary drinks in favor of flavored water or other healthier options.

Developing healthy eating habits when children are young is important to help them grow and thrive. With a little creativity, lunch can be something your child looks forward to each day.
