The holidays are filled with fun, parties, and surprises. It can also be the perfect time for some simple crafts to keep little ones entertained. Below are some simple ideas that your children will LOVE.
Handprint Reindeer
Needed: brown construction paper, googly eyes, red pom poms, glue, child safe scissors, crayons
This project can be a great keepsake for parents or grandparents. Using a pencil, trace your child’s hand onto the construction paper. If they are old enough, let your child cut out their reindeer. Let your child decorate their reindeer however they want.
Snowflakes
Needed: thin paper plates, child-safe scissors, crayons, stickers, glitter glue
Everyone LOVES snowflakes. This easy idea works well with white paper if you do not have paper plates. Fold the plate or paper in. half repeatedly. Help your toddler cut small shapes out of the folded plate. Circles, rectangles, squares or other simple shapes all work!
Unfold the snowflake and flatten. Let your child decorate the snowflake with the glitter glue, stickers and crayons.
Holiday Decorative Chains
Needed: Colorful construction paper, scissors, glue or tape
Cut strips of colorful construction paper all the same thickness. This can be short or long. (for younger children, make the sheets a bit longer so it is easier to make the chain.)
Make a circle with the first strip and glue or tape the ends together. Loop the second strip through the circle the glue or tape the ends to make another chain. Continue until you are out of paper.
Use these to decorate the tree or hang from lights or furniture.
Craft time isn’t all fun and games. Children learn through play. Cutting, gluing and decorating can be great for fine motor skills, and increase their confidence and confidence, just to name a few. Craft time is a favorite at the daycare for both children and teachers.
