Children love hands-on crafts and special holidays like Valentine’s Day provide a great opportunity! At Kiwanis Day Care Center, we love hands-on crafts, but the fun doesn’t have to stop when children go home! We encourage parents to have some Valentine’s fun with your children, too!
Sticker Cards
With some stickers from the dollar store (choose Valentine’s themed or your child’s favorite characters) and some paper and cardstocks, children can make their own Valentine’s Day cards!
- Fold a piece of construction paper or card stock in half to form a card.
- Fold another piece of paper (different color) in half and cut a half heart shape along the fold.
- Unfold your heart and use a glue stick to decorate the outside and inside of your card. Younger children will need some help with this step.
- Children can use crayons, markers, and of course LOTS of STICKERS to make cards for family and friends.
Heart-Shaped Collages
- Precut hearts in a variety of sizes and colors. Older children can help with this step.
- Gather other craft supplies that will make a great collage: stickers, letters, lace doilies, magazine photos, etc.
- Give each child a piece of card stock or construction paper and a glue stick.
- Each child can customize their collage with their favorites.
- Hang the completed collages on the refrigerator or other prominent space.
Decorate Hearts
- Cut large colorful hearts from construction paper or cardstock.
- Punch holes around the edge of each heart about ¼ of an inch from the edge.
- Give each child yard to weave around the heart and tie a bow.
- Children can also decorate the inside of the heart.
Valentine’s crafts don’t have to be complicated or messy to be fun for everyone. Keep things simple and both you and your children will enjoy it! But these activates aren’t just fun. They help children practice fine motor skills, express emotions and build confidence.
