Parents are always worried their child is not developing “normally”. It’s important to keep in mind that every child grows and develops at their own pace. However, these developmental milestones can help parents and caregivers understand what skills children typically gain by the time he/she reaches 12 months old.
Emotional: By the time they turn one, most children smile at familiar faces, respond to voices and sounds around them and show some preferences for the people who care for them.
Motor Skills: Most 12-month-olds have mastered rolling over, sitting without support, crawling and pulling up. They have also begun grasping toys and putting their mouths on toys and other objects.
Communication: By 12 months, children typically coo and babble fairly frequently. They also will turn toward familiar voices and may recognize some words.
